Why a days-based result is useful
A large number of litres or gallons can be hard to interpret. Home Resilience Check converts the quantity back into household coverage and identifies water as the limiting resource when it runs out before the selected planning horizon.
During a real incident
Stored-water arithmetic does not override boil-water, do-not-drink or distribution instructions from your supplier or public authorities. The live plan keeps those safety limitations separate from the planning calculation.
Plan quantity and access separately
A household may have enough stored water on paper but still need to think about where it is kept, whether containers can be moved safely and what happens if authorities provide temporary distribution points. Home Resilience Check focuses on the quantity calculation and leaves those local operational questions visible rather than pretending a single number solves them.
Pet water is entered, not guessed
Animal needs vary too much for a useful universal allowance. If pets are selected, the planner asks for the total daily amount the household wants to reserve for them. Until that field is completed, pet water is explicitly excluded and shown as a planning gap.
Enhanced reserves remain transparent
Users can test a larger reserve without confusing it with the official minimum. The result identifies whether the selected level is an official country figure or a Home Resilience Check planning setting.
