Local guidance always takes priority.

During a real incident, follow current local government, emergency-service, utility and public-health guidance for your location. Local evacuation, boil-water, do-not-drink, shelter and safety instructions override this website.

Home Resilience Check is designed to make household-preparedness calculations explainable. Safety-critical claims and country baselines are based primarily on government, civil-defence, public-health, food-safety, fire-service and utility-network sources.

Source hierarchy

We prefer the authority responsible for the instruction: national/state/local government for preparedness and evacuation; water suppliers/public-health bodies for water-quality notices; food-safety authorities for refrigeration and food safety; utilities/network operators for outage procedures; and equipment manufacturers for device-specific limits.

Local instructions override the site

A national preparedness page cannot know the condition of your street, water network, weather warning, evacuation zone or local emergency. During an incident, current local government, emergency-service, utility and public-health instructions always override this website.

Official guidance vs Home Resilience Check assumptions

When an official quantity exists, the site identifies the source. When a useful calculation needs a site-created assumption—such as the optional enhanced-water setting outside the UK or the basic phone-energy allowance—it is labelled as a planning assumption rather than attributed to an authority.

Medical and safety boundaries

The site does not diagnose conditions, recommend prescription quantities, change treatment, size backup systems for life-support equipment, guarantee food safety or tell users that a calculated number of days is safe to remain at home. It deliberately refers those decisions to appropriate professionals and current authorities.

Corrections and reviews

Source pages show a review date. Material changes in official guidance should trigger a review of both the source text and the calculation that depends on it. Corrections can be raised through the contact page.

Commercial independence

Advertising or future affiliate relationships do not set calculator quantities or safety advice. See the advertising disclosure.
